My 1st Decorated Cake - Vanilla Cake with Buttercream Icing

After my course, I had learned how to make buttercream icing and to pipe flowers.
I also had seen the technique that I used around the cake and wanted to give it a try.

The blue consisted of three different shades. I used the nozzle that is a big empty dot. I made a blob of icing and would smear it with a knife. This took me ages to complete so I recommend making very large dots and smearing them with a spoon.

In terms of the flowers, I used the rose petal nozzle (it is a line but one side is much more open). Then I tried to make hydrangeas with the star nozzle but after looking at pictures, the petals need to be more separate. Then I used the leaf nozzle with has an indent in the middle and is cut at a 45 degree angle on both sides.

I also managed to make a really smooth crumb icing layer. I did this using a scraper and it made it effortless. It helps to have a turntable.
